Back from the land of Binge

Yes, that Binge, with a capital B.

I can't believe I did this, but I fell headfirst into a lot of garbage carbs! I'm not going to go into details....partly out of embarassment of what I ate. Let's just say Easter is around the corner, and the stores are well stocked!

Anyway I'm back. I decided I had to start this out with a fast, so I'm fasting today and part of tomorrow. I'll start eating again tomorrow at lunch.

I know lots of people will fron on this method, but for me it works. I'll fast for 24-30 hours, then start eating again, keeping to "intervention" level carbs for a week or so, then moving to "transition", where I'll stay until I get to maintenence.

Fasting breaks the cycle for me, especially when I go on a bad binge like I did this time. It's been a tough day. Telling myself that I'm fasting....then wanting to have something. But, I stuck with coffee, tea and water and I'm good now. I probably won't even be hungry tomorrow, but lunch will taste soooooo good! I'm thinking Caesar Salad at my favorite place near work, Baba Ghanoush (Cary, NC).

I've also set a new goal. I'm trying to get up to Massachusetts again this summer. One of my "adopted" daughters (my DD's friend) is getting married and I want to see it happen!!! I also want to have ankles that I want to show off. I want to get a sexy summer dress to wear. I want to look GOOD!!!

So here's my goal. Today is March 5, 2007 and by August 6, 2007 I want to loose 50 pounds. That sounds like a lot, but it's not too bad. That's 5 months to loose 50 pounds. That's 10 pounds per month. If I stick with my plan and do my exercising, I should be fine.

Not sure just yet what I'm going to be doing for exercise, the first few days after a binge I'm usually not good for much. Right now, stick with walking the dogs, and I'll figure out what else by the end of the week. I have to get my weight bench out of my son's room so I can get back into my strength training.

I'd really like to set a size goal, rather than weight, but I have NO idea what size I'll be when I get to goal. I know I'll at least be a size 14, but no idea if any lower. I'm 5'8" and good size build, so I know I'll never be a size 2. And if I ever DO get down to a size 2 there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with the sizes they sell today! LOL

I'll post my weight ticker and exercise goals later this week. I wanted to commit to this and now I have to get to sleep!!!

Weekend

This has been a major blowout week, ending with a not-too bad weekend.

I'm doing Intermittent Fasting (IF) and on my eating days I usually don't worry about what I eat....but within reason. This past week I splurged. I had a sub, and a milkshake, and regular cheesecake with chocolate fudge. It was all very tasty, but time to get back on track!!!

Went to see my oldest this weekend. She's so happy!! She's in college up in Boone, and she's still plugging along!! She was refused further financial assistance, but is going to continue to fight for it. She's an English major with a concentration in creative writing. She's a very good writer and enjoys everything about English! Funny tho, she's had trouble with her foreign language!! She tried and failed with Spanish, even with tutors, and now she's taking German. She's doing well, but she still needs a tutor!! She wants her Master's, but she's still got a long road ahead of her. She's technically a Junior (I think), and is only able to go part time.

We went to see the Appalacian State football team trample Furman University. Final score was 40-7! And man was it cold!!!Luckily Laura had a hat and gloves for me. I remembered to wash my coat and bring warm sweaters, etc....but forgot all about my head and hands!! I was amazed at the number of girls (students) who appeared to put fashion over comfort!!

I am so proud of my kids!!!

Here's my Brian this past summer:

Here's Laura and Chris (her honey!):

I'll be weighing in Tuesday AM, will post again then.

Oh yea...I couldn't forget my puppies!!
That would be Daisy on the left and Duke on the right.

Weigh Day, Week 6

Short Term Goal:

WHOO HOO!!!! 3 more pounds gone!!!!!

I'm still doing the intermittent fasting and staying pretty close to plan when I do eat. I'm actually amazed at how little effort this it. I'm rarely hungry on my fasting days, and when I do get hungry I just have some water. I do allow myself coffee and tea, both with a little cream or milk, but not much. Actually on fasting days I get most of my calories from my fish oil and Vitamin E!!

I kind of lost track of what I've been eating, but I'm still getting enough on my eating days to pretty much cover my fasting days. I guess because you regularly eat and eat well you don't get into a starvation response. I think maybe that only happens when you have long-term reduced calories?? Who knows all I know is I'm loosing, and it's been pretty easy!!

Weigh Day

Short Term Goal:

Weight today and I lost another 4 pounds!!! I only did the Intermittent fasting one day last week, so I guess that was the reason for the big loss this week. Heck I don't care what happened!!! I'm just glad I lost!!!

I'm not going to continue posting my daily totals and means, but will post a summary each week.

Here's my averages for the past week:

Short Term Goal:

Thursday:

Well, I survived my fasting day!!!!

I only fasted for 22 hrs, since I decided to do this last night after 11PM.....and I knew I wouldn't be able to eat today after 11 and still get a good night's sleep.

Mostly I drank water all day. I did have a cup of tea....well actually I made 2 cups, but the second never got drank. I also had a few sips of coffee and a can of diet soda.

For the most part I was fine all day.....a few hunger pangs here and there, but not bad at all.

And for dinner tonight I made myself a pretty big taco salad. Lettuce, taco seasoned ground beef, shreadded cheese, sour cream and salsa. A little while later I had my raspberry & blueberry cobbler with whipped cream.

I don't think I'm going to do this fasting thing every other day.....but maybe one day every 2-4 days. Maybe if I hit a stall I'll increase the frequency.....but for now I'll stick with this schedule.

For those of you that haven't been following my blog, see Dr Michael Eades' blog on Intermittent Fasting for details, reason for fasting, etc. Additional information can be found here.

Here are my totals for the Thursday:

Calories: 1177
Carbs:37 g
Fiber: 12g (net = 25g)

Saturated: 40g
Monounsaturates: 23g
Polyunsaturates: 9g

9-10PM:
Taco salad (beef)

11PM-12m:
Raspberry & blueberry cobbler with whipped cream
Protein shake

I've had 104 oz pure water, tea, soda and a few sips of coffee.
According to Fitday, my fluid intake was 139 oz.

For Tuesday I burned 2456 calories This includes all logged activities and digestion.

So on Friday it's back to my normal low carb plan, Protein Power again. I am still going to stick with the idea of eating only when my body tells me to eat. I am going to stick with low carb foods, and I'm going to try and icrease my protein intake, but I'm only going to eat when hungry.

Weigh day is Tuesday.....wonder what will happen.

Thursday: No lunch again today....belly better, but not hungry. I read an intersting blog today. Dr Mike wrote about Intermittent Fasting. I've also been reading more and more articles that basically say if you eat when you're hungry, even if it's not a lot, you'll be better off than sticking with any schedule. Hmmmm....maybe I should be as worried about eating as much as what I eat?!?!?!?

OK....I have seen that once I get into low carb I have a very low appetite. And there have been times I've almost forced myself to eat something, just to make sure I don't fall below a certain calorie level. Maybe I've been wrong in doing this?

I'm not going to get into the fasting, at least not now, but I am going to stop worrying about how many meals I eat in a day now. I do like the idea of fasting 6PM to 6PM like Dr Mike suggested, but for now, I'm going to strictly listen to my body and see what happens. I think I might increase the use of protein drinks and powders.....I'll have to think about that. I do like my meat, but not sure I can get an adequate amount of protein this way. But let's see.

It's funny tho, since I got sick this time I have been listening to my body and eating whatever I wanted. I have been sticking with low carb, and watching my intake, but I've basically eaten what I want. 4 days this past week I've really had 2 meals and a snack....which I guess could be considered 3 meals. But to me it's been breakfast, dinner and a snack.

I think for a while I'm going to just eat when I want to and just stick with my low carb choices.

Here are my totals for the Thursday:
Calories:
1112
Carbs: 29g
Fiber: 5g (net = 24g)
Fat: 73g
Saturated: 28g
Monounsaturates: 19g
Polyunsaturates: 10g
Protein: 84g

Breakfast:
Strawberry shake
egg whites
cream

Dinner:
Cheeseburger with bread and catsup

Snack:
Shake with cream and egg whites

I've had 100 oz pure water and 1 large cup of tea with whole milk.
According to Fitday, my fluid intake was 122 oz.

For Thursday I burned only 2167 calories (went with default for sedentary, because I have been). This includes digestion.
